This level is awesome...I finally beat it! Hats off to Josh on such a great puzzle...

I have all the info on the server to make histograms, so if there ever get to be lots of ratings, I can generate those.

I think the ratings are mainly useful for the purposes of triage (which I ought to start doing, since the triage dir is getting very large!). But they'll probably stick around after the levels are moved to more permanent homes, since having more accurate ratings is better, and since I still think it's valuable to see the difference between a good easy level and a good hard level and a good loose level, etc.

Well, all in all, I guess you should leave pre-solved ratings in. I do agree with Brian about the ratings histograms, eventually though... Just out of curiosity, are the ratings in place just to help determine an "official" level set, or do you plan on keeping them in the final version of Escape?

Well, I'll cop to rating this one before I beat it...

Rating rigidity is clearly senseless until you've beat it, but I think it is possible to accurately assess style and difficulty for a level like this (I've certainly spent a lot of time time trying it...!)

Unfortunately, I think showing the ratings separately would be pretty useless since almost nobody rates without solving. So is it worth just turning off pre-solved rating? It's easy to do, but I feel like it could leave some really good and hard levels (that have gotten a lot of play time) with too little feedback.

It would also be cool to see ratings histograms. That way we could tell which levels are unanimous and which ones are both loved and hated.
On the other hand, there's no rush on that feature since most levels only have 3 or 4 ratings so far.

I agree, Joshua. I think ratings should be tabulated separately, among those who have solved the level and those who haven't. This would be a little complicated, but often the style of a level is highly dependent on the solution. And it's pretty much a guess to rate rigidity before having solved a level. Really the only reason to rate a level before solving it is to express that you are having trouble solving it.

It sorta irks me when people rate levels they haven't solved...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Solved! Wow, this level is awesome. Very aptly named; it really forces you to learn about the intricacies of daleks. The color scheme is great, it's totally unique, and an enjoyable (though initially frustrating!) challenge. Great job, Joshua!
